Cancer Video Blog

June 1, 2007

I ventured to an amazing mix of cancer and video blogging today thanks to FI Space. Adrian Sudbury is video blogging his experience with cancer and has been keeping a blog of his treatments.

Adrian Sudbury has been a reporter for both the Huddersfield Express and Chronicle Series and the Huddersfield Examiner. In November 2006 the 25-year-old was promoted to digital journalist, effectively editing the new-look Examiner website. Just two days into his new role he became seriously ill and called in sick. A week later he drove himself to A&E and was eventually diagnosed with leukaemia. It was then identified that he actually has two distinct types of the disease running at the same time. According to the medical literature he is the only person in the world to have this condition. As such, it has not been possible to offer Adrian a prognosis. Here he shares his experiences of the disease and his treatment.

Go check out his video blog as he tells his personal experience with cancer, in front of the world. If you want, friend him on Youtube and leave comments on his videos and blog!

Relay ‘07 Video

June 1, 2007

Enjoy the memories from Karen’s Kids Relay For Life 2007! I have another video of pictures that will be uploaded and also about 20 videos that still need to be edited!

Click To Play

Visit out blip.tv page, watch the videos, and then click some of the ads – because every click is like $.01 and will then be credited to Karen’s Kids, which in turn will be donated back to the American Cancer Society! Please, do not go overboard and click for like 10 minutes though, be real, thanks!

Our friends over at FI Space just wrote a little something about one of the previous posts here about us switching over to blip.tv for video hosting. Be sure to check it out!

blip.tv

May 24, 2007

I just created a blip.tv account. You may ask why did I do that, all our videos are already on youtube

  1. The youtube account is my personal account (thus the username = jeffreysimms)
  2. Youtube has crappy picture quality (sometimes good though…)
  3. Creating a new account with Blip.tv with the username = karenkids = better branding
  4. Blip.tvĀ  has a neat video player, much better than youtube I think
  5. Blip.tv offers the owner of the video advertising
  6. Blip.tv advertising = Money for Karen’s Kids = Funding for cancer research and advocacy

Blip.tv has me sold, even if it’s $.18 – that’s money in the bank for the American Cancer Society. Some of the big names in video blogging use blip.tv, if it’s good enough for them, then why not Karen’s Kids?

Relay ‘07 Recap

May 20, 2007

The Shiawassee County Relay For Life 2007 has come to a close! Things overall went fairly smooth and good. So far, the running total for the Relay is $134,000 and money is still coming in until August 31. Last year over $12,000 came in after Relay was over, I’m hoping for similar or better results! As a team we were just under our goal of $5,000 – which is totally okay because we worked out butts off this year! We also have money coming in from a fund raiser put on by a local elementary school, I’m excited to see the ending numbers though!

I updated my twitter pretty much every hour or at least attempted to. I hope people got a better idea of what we were doing at Relay from this and hopefully inspires others to do this as well for their upcoming relays.

I took around 1.5gigs of pictures and video during the 24 hours! That was pretty shocking to me! I can’t wait to sit down and begin to create something sweet!. I’ll post whatever I create in the coming weeks in the VIDEO SECTION on the forum, as well as Karen’s Kids personal blog (www.karenskids.wordpress.com).

Back to Relay… There were many new first year teams participating, which is great to see. We also grew to have the most teams every this year! Our team was also featured in the Argus-Press Newspaper (not sure how long the link will be active…)

A lot of silliness happened at our campsite as you can see if you check out our pictures on flickr. Our campsite was known for the flamingos all around and the lively energy from passionate team members.

So, I’m (again) leaving out so many things that happened, but you can fill in the gaps by visiting my twitter page and flickr page!

Thanks to KinnicChick and TrishSnyder for all the comments on twitter and the forums during our relay, my team really enjoyed to hear that others hundreds of miles away were thinking about us and interested in what we were doing! Also thanks to all our sponsors: Mancino’s Pizza & Grinders, QD Scrubs, Central Elementary School, Phi Sigma Sigma Theta-Iota Chapter, University of Michigan-Flint Radiation Therapy Student Organization, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Michigan Delta-Omega Chapter, and HostXM Web Hosting.
