Relay ‘07 Recap

May 20, 2007

The Shiawassee County Relay For Life 2007 has come to a close! Things overall went fairly smooth and good. So far, the running total for the Relay is $134,000 and money is still coming in until August 31. Last year over $12,000 came in after Relay was over, I’m hoping for similar or better results! As a team we were just under our goal of $5,000 – which is totally okay because we worked out butts off this year! We also have money coming in from a fund raiser put on by a local elementary school, I’m excited to see the ending numbers though!

I updated my twitter pretty much every hour or at least attempted to. I hope people got a better idea of what we were doing at Relay from this and hopefully inspires others to do this as well for their upcoming relays.

I took around 1.5gigs of pictures and video during the 24 hours! That was pretty shocking to me! I can’t wait to sit down and begin to create something sweet!. I’ll post whatever I create in the coming weeks in the VIDEO SECTION on the forum, as well as Karen’s Kids personal blog (www.karenskids.wordpress.com).

Back to Relay… There were many new first year teams participating, which is great to see. We also grew to have the most teams every this year! Our team was also featured in the Argus-Press Newspaper (not sure how long the link will be active…)

A lot of silliness happened at our campsite as you can see if you check out our pictures on flickr. Our campsite was known for the flamingos all around and the lively energy from passionate team members.

So, I’m (again) leaving out so many things that happened, but you can fill in the gaps by visiting my twitter page and flickr page!

Thanks to KinnicChick and TrishSnyder for all the comments on twitter and the forums during our relay, my team really enjoyed to hear that others hundreds of miles away were thinking about us and interested in what we were doing! Also thanks to all our sponsors: Mancino’s Pizza & Grinders, QD Scrubs, Central Elementary School, Phi Sigma Sigma Theta-Iota Chapter, University of Michigan-Flint Radiation Therapy Student Organization, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Michigan Delta-Omega Chapter, and HostXM Web Hosting.

Relay ‘07 Success!

May 20, 2007

The first batch (=150) of Relay For Life 2007 photos are up on our flickr page! The next batch will be up tomorrow after I charge my camera and upload. I guess 1.5 gigs of photos and video uses a lot of battery, who would’ve thought?

Oh yeah, I really said 1.5 gigs of Karen’s Kids goodness from Relay 2007! So much is about to happen in the coming weeks with slideshows, video editing & movies, DVDs, and complete crazyness!

Thank you SO MUCH to Keri and Trish for all the twitter love during Relay, it was great to have that conversation going!

I have much more to say and talk about, but I’m exhausted because of the lack of sleep (< 6 in the past 48hrs). A more detailed blog will be coming tomorrow after I get some much need R&R.

In The Press

May 12, 2007

A few days ago I said I would upload or link to the story about us in the Owosso Independent…  As promised, here’s the Owosso Independent PDF from their recent story on us.

Also, we are in The Argus-Press today! They unfortunatly do not have an online version of their paper for non-paying customers, but thats okay because, I took a Picture of the story! It’s our first time being in the Argus-Press, so go pick up a copy today!

Last night we did flamingos again, it was a little chilly outside, but a few more pictures were taken, check the flickr.  As always, if you want to participate in the Flamingo Drop, check out our website for contact information and what it’s all about.

Z92.5 Morning Show

May 3, 2007

This morning we were on WJSZ 92.5 The Castle Morning Show. Denna and Chris were amazingly awesome and we had a lot of fun talking about relay and our flamingo drop. Thanks for those who tuned in around 7:15-7:30am!

Check out the rest of the pics on our flickr page!

Media Section

April 24, 2007

There’s a new section on the website called Media. This is where any videos or photos are embedded and then linked to the original source. Right now I’ve embedded the sidewalk chalking video and last year’s slide show, along with the pictures on flickr. The new section replaces the photos section, and adds video, thus Media.  I’m thinking of maybe doing the same to the blog section, seeing that it’s being hosted elsewhere…

Photo Updates!

April 22, 2007

We have some amazing sidewalk chalking photos (and video is coming) that was done this weekend.

Flickr Badge

April 13, 2007

I added a flickr badge to the site. This allows users to see pictures on the site directly linked from flickr. It’s pretty nifty I think. I also added a thank you page for our corporate sponsors, friends, and in general good peoples.
