Karen’s Kids is a team composed of former students of Central Elementary School in Owosso who had Karen Sommer. After learning of her diagnosis in fall of 2005 a team was created to honor her and help raise donations that all benefit the American Cancer Society. Karen is a survivor, and we relay to honor her battle and victory!
Last year Karen’s Kids raised over $3,000 as a first year team! This year we are setting the bar higher, with a goal of $5,000! Relay for Life is a 24-hour event being held at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds on May 18-19 starting at 4:00 p.m. and ending the next day at 4:00 p.m. We’ll have our own campsite where we’ll have tents, a fire, and some other exciting new additions that are still top secret! If you would like to come out and walk a couple of laps in support of the fight against cancer, we highly encourage that! There will also be a few laps to honor survivors of cancer, where those who have beat cancer join others like them; it’s a great sight to see!

Karen, I found you through the acsrelay.org blog. Wow — I love reading your blog — well done. I am the captain of a bike team MojoRiding — we do a lot of fundraising — it can be a challenge to engage and motivate the team year after year — albeit a “labor of love”.
I started making photo buttons for our team to honor and support the loved ones we ride for — to “put a face on your fundraising” from that I started a company http://www.buttonsofhope.com where people can upload a photo and make a photo button (add a name or phrase) to wear in a event like RFL! And there are no minimums — make a single button if you like $5 each and $1 from each goes to the charity of your choice — that’s it plain and simple.
I hope this does not sound like too much of a sales — that is not my intent — just trying to get the word out to people like you who are leading amazing efforts to support friends, family and fight cancer. If you have a couple of minutes please check out my website — watch the video too! Email me michael at buttons of hope dot com or call me at 704.341.1954. Again congratulations on what you are doing — I look forward to hearing back from you.
